Vanilla Old Fashioned RecipeVanilla Old Fashioned Recipe
Ingredients:
2 oz bourbon
1/4 oz vanilla syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Orange peel (for garnish)
Ice (preferably a large cube)
Vanilla Syrup:
1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 vanilla bean, split and scraped or 1 tbsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
Prepare the vanilla syrup:
In a small saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape the seeds into the saucepan (or add vanilla extract). Heat gently, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Strain and store in the refrigerator.Mix the cocktail:
In a mixing glass, combine bourbon, vanilla syrup, and bitters. Add ice and stir until well chilled and diluted, about 20-30 seconds.Serve:
Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Express the orange peel by twisting it over the glass to release the oils, then drop it in as garnish.
Tasting notes:
The vanilla syrup lends a warm, fragrant sweetness that complements the oak and caramel notes in the bourbon, while the bitters add complexity. This twist on the classic Old Fashioned is both elegantly simple and indulgently smooth.
